Easter Bake 'n' Take
Today was the Easter Bake 'n' Take at school. Thanks to all you marvellous bakers out there!

March is a-coming
Just to remind you that the next FHHS Planning meeting is on Monday 4th March at 7.30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. We really are quite a friendly bunch and new people and ideas are always welcomed with open arms!
The next Bake 'n' Take is on Tuesday 12th March, starting at 3 p.m. All baking should be brought to school that morning.
Thanks to all those who have agreed to take part in the Channel Challenge Sponsored Swim! This starts on 23rd March and will finish on Sunday 2nd June. The idea is to commit to swim a certain distance (whatever you like) between these dates and to persuade friends and family to sponsor you to do so! I will then add up the total distance and hopefully it will be at least 44 miles (the distance it would take us to swim to France and back!)
We have a few intrepid swimmers who have already committed to this, but you have until the end of this term to decide you will get involved. Please let me know if you want to join in this team challenge and between us, let's keep fit and raise funds at the same time.

Forthcoming events
After January's planning meeting was cancelled because of bad weather, we finally met on 4th February to discuss fund-raising ideas for the spring term and beyond. We have two main events coming up:
Easter Bake 'n' Take
This will be on Tuesday 12th March at 3 p.m. in the Community Café. Home baking is what makes this event so successful, so if you are able to contribute to this, please let us know!
Channel Challenge Sponsored Swim
This sponsored swim will take place over a period of 10 weeks, from 23rd March until 2nd June. The aim is for pupils, parents and staff to swim at least 44 miles - which is the equivalent distance of swimming the English Channel and back! People are free to swim any distance (from 1 length to as many miles as they are capable of achieving) whenever it is convenient for them to do so during that period. They 'sign up' to a distance (so that I can collate how far we have swum in total) and collect a sponsor form and then go ahead with their swimming and bring in their sponsor monies by Friday 7th June at the latest. Hopefully, this will raise lots of money for the school, will help us all to keep fit and will be a fun way of finding out how far Hope House School can swim around the world! (I am quite convinced we will be able to accumulate more than 44 miles between us!)
Our first mile has been pledged (congratulations to Sam Clee on being the first person to return his form!) and hopefully by the end of the next half-term, we will know how many miles we are aiming for! If you can't join in the actual swimming, please consider sponsoring someone and helping us to raise lots of money for school funds.

Welcome to 2013!
Welcome to 2013! As always, a new year brings with it new opportunities and new challenges. We are very glad that each new year does not have to be faced in our own strength but that we can know God's presence, guidance, help and strength in everything we do. That takes the pressure off a little!
The next FHHS Planning Meeting will be on Monday 21st January at 7.30 p.m. in school. Do come along to this meeting if you can, as we will be planning the fund-raising activities and social events for this spring term at that meeting. The more ideas we have, the more we can find something that will appeal to everyone.

Bag2School news
We end term with further news of our fund-raising successes. The Bag2School Day back in November raised £150 for school funds, so a very big thank you to all of you who brought in clothes, bedding, towels and other goods.
Dates for this recycling fund-raising have been set for 2013, so if you have your new diaries, put these dates in straightaway. Bag2School in 2013 will be on:

More Christmas Fayre photos
Whilst all this fun was going on in the community room, parents, staff and pupils were serving refreshments in the cafe area. Our thanks go to Mr Oakley & Ms Butler who made turkey sandwiches and to Mrs Wagstaff who served drinks, along with thanks to pupils and parents who provided some delicious buns, cakes and biscuits to keep us going. We called this 'Festive Fuel' and it certainly helped to pass the time!
We really enjoyed the Primary Department singing a medley of Christmas carols:
At the end of the afternoon, the winners from the competitions were announced:
Mr Grummett won the food & drink hamper:
Mrs Stenton won the Pamper Hamper:
Alyssia McMahon correctly guessed the Pirate Treasure hiding place (Sapphire Sea) and won a game and chocolate coins:
Mrs Dunning correctly named the elephant (Ella):
Other prize-winners who were not there to collect their prizes:
* Seth Housley won the sweets (guessing 380, when the correct answer was 364)
* Lathusan Thyakaran who correctly named the polar bear Snowball
* Jake Mount who guessed the name of the cottage (Reindeer Row)
Our thanks go to all who helped in any way, shape or form, especially:
* all parents who donated gifts for the hamper, home baking or home produce or bottles for the Lucky Dip Game
* all parents, grandparents and friends who came along to make the Fayre such a success
* FHHS members who gave their time sacrificially to price items, set up and clear away and help out in so many practical ways
* Mr Oakley & Ms Butler & Mrs Wagstaff for their help with refreshments
* Mrs Thomas for the Pirate Map
* Mrs Dodd for donating the cuddly toys
* Mrs Clee for her help in filling the mugs with chocolates and selling another 36 BCS mugs!
* all parents and pupils who helped to run the stalls
* Diane, Diane and Emma who brought their crafts and gifts to sell
* Stephen Turner & Mr Dunning for helping with the games
* Stacey Chapman for acting as our official photographer
* all staff who helped with the Primary singing and with setting up and clearing away of the Fayre. Such events cause much disruption to ordinary school life and the willingness of staff to support such events is much appreciated by all FHHS members.
Finally, mention must be made of the 'Save Our Surgery' fund to support the Children's Heart Unit in Yorkshire. We have personal experience of how this unit has helped people we know and we were very happy to support the 'Wear Red' campaign being run today.
It is easy at times to view fund-raising events with a somewhat jaded eye, especially at the end of a busy term. Joshua, pictured here with a relative and one of our pupils, is a vivid reminder of the marvellous work done by the Children's Heart Unit and we were very pleased to be able to offer our practical support of this charity at the same time as raising funds for school.

Many, many thanks to all of you who supported the Christmas Fayre this afternoon. We raised a massive £416.04 for school funds and also raised £41.60 for the Children's Heart Unit (Save Our Surgery fund) in Yorkshire. We are very grateful for all your generosity in providing so many goods for the event and in supporting this so well!
